ABOUT BERISFORDS RIBBONS

Peter Bowers, company managing director, heads up a team of 85 employees based at their Cheshire Mill expertly manufacturing luxury ribbons and bows. He is joined by fellow directors Andrew Walker, finance; Graham Parker, production; Matthew Roberts, sales.

Peter said: “In terms of markets, we supply our extensive ribbon collection to a variety of sectors from wholesale and retail through to crafts,  haberdashery, corporate branding and packaging. Decorative ribbons and bows are used for product and gift  packaging for cosmetics, and confectionary through to floristry and homeware. Our food safe  ribbon is  the perfect  cake ribbon for birthday and Christmas celebrations.

Berisfords Continued Success

As a traditional ribbon manufacturer since 1858, recognising industry changes has been a key factor in Berisfords continued success . Peter said “The big changes in the business have probably happened in the last ten years or so. Previously, the business mainly supplied haberdashery products for retail, but other markets continue to grow with decorative gift packaging now a vital part of the business.”

“Berisfords is still here because we’ve always moved ahead of ribbon and  gift packaging industry trends. For example, we were developing in luxury  packaging solutions well before other people did. We are always looking forward. That said, we have not neglected the traditional wholesale market either.”

A UK RIBBON MANUFACTURER

Competition from the Far East has seen many UK textile businesses disappear. But Berisfords’ policy of continuing to manufacture ribbons in Congleton has paid off .

Peter said: “A few years ago, if you said we were going to remain in the UK, people would think you mad. But it’s turned out to be the right policy. I think with quality and service paramount our focus is now on the increasing need for sustainability and awareness of our environment. By remaining as a UK manufacturer, we can continue our sustainable efforts by reducing our carbon footprint and emissions and those of our customers. This has been supported by the launch of our satin and grosgrain recycled ribbons woven with yarns made from recycled  plastic bottles. We aim to ensure that sustainable packaging is a key element of our strategy going forward.

Personalised Ribbons and Bows

The company also offers bespokes services such as personalised printed ribbon. This incorporates anything the client requires, be it their own design woven into a bespoke ribbon or branded ribbons and bows with printed  logos. Also available are pantone-matched dyed ribbons. All our ribbons can be tailored into handmade bows.
