Congleton means business at London textile event

5 local businesses put on a great show to represent Congleton as an example of investment and growth in the UK Textile Industry.

With local businesses, Berisfords, Botex, Airbags, Congleton Engineering and the Town Council all represented with support from Stephen Sebire, David Watson (Chief Exec of the Chamber of Commerce) and Tim McCloud (Managing Director of TMC Strategic Communications). The group had a significant presence at the New Dawn Rebuilding UK Textile Manufacturing Event held in London on Friday 2nd November 2012.

More than 250 retailers and manufacturers gathered at the event including market leaders such as Jaeger, Johnstons of Elgin and Brookes Brothers so it was a great honour when the team were acknowledged in the opening speech by James Sugden, Director of Johnstons of Elgin, referring to ‘the Congleton Brigade’ and commenting on the big presence they had created at the event.

This one-day conference held at Clothworkers Hall – headquarters of The Clothworkers’ Company, one of London’s prestigious Livery Companies looked at the opportunities and challenges the industry currently faces. The keynote speech was delivered by Rt. Hon Vince Cable MP, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, highlighting the importance of manufacturing to the UK economy and how the department launched it’s ‘Make it in Great Britain’ campaign last year.

Congleton was represented very well at this event and will continue to do so in the future at other events of this kind to continue to promote Congleton as a great place to live and work.
